The Stages of a House Project

Building a house is an exciting and challenging endeavor. It’s important to know what steps are involved in order to plan your budget and timeline. From fitting the land to putting in your foundation, here is the breakdown of the stages of house project:

First step is buying the right lot or securing new land that fits your desired home design. Then the lot is prepared for construction by clearing, grading, and ensuring access. This is also where any property restrictions and easements are identified so they can be addressed accordingly. The next phase involves securing the proper financing. After the construction loan is approved, your builder can then purchase materials and begin the ground breaking process. This is when the real construction work begins.

In a perfect world, construction would take place quickly and without any hiccups. However, we all must be realistic and understand that the process can be time consuming and arduous at times. The average timeline of turning the blueprints into a finished house is about a year. The specifics of your construction can change the timeline, but understanding it will help you plan and budget for what you are going to experience during the project.

During the pre-construction phase, your contractor will complete all necessary planning and permit submissions. You will also finalize your home design and customize the plans based on your preferences. This is where you will start to see your dream come to life.

After a few months of pre-construction, the excavation and foundation construction can begin. Then it’s time to pour the footers and foundation slabs. This is where the concrete really starts to take shape and it’s exhilarating to watch.

Once the foundation is set and a rough inspection has been completed, framing can start. This is when you really start to get a feel for the layout and design of your home. It is also during this phase that you will begin to install many of your finishes like cabinets, appliances, plumbing fixtures, and electrical outlets.

This is also when the exterior and interior insulation will be installed. Your home is starting to come together and you will start to see the true color of your choice for your siding, roof, and gutters.

During week fifteen, your driveways and walkways will be constructed as well as any other outdoor details. In addition, your builders will be completing all of the remaining inspections. This is a very busy and exciting time, as you are watching your dream home come to life before your eyes! Once your home passes all the inspections, you will have a closing date. You will then move in and enjoy your new home!
